Satellite TV Home > Dish Network Satellite DISH Network Satellite informationEchoStar Communi- cations Inc. owns and operates DISH network Satellite television. The acronym stands for Digital Information Sky Highway. TV is an alternative to DirecTV with over 2 million subscribers. They offer different packages with a choice of over 256 channels including sports, movies, news, and international channels. Also, DISH supplies 31 channels of CD-quality music. With a special package, you can view up to 500 channels. Like DIRECTV, they provide digital programming and require an 18 inch satellite dish. EchoStar Communication got their direct broadcast license in 1987. After 8 years, in 1995, they launched their very first satellite, EchoStar I. Currently they own eight satellites. DISH network satellite TV now covers Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. In order to get the DISH network satellite service, you need a receiver and a dish. They offer three main types of receivers: the standard, PVR, and HD receivers. The standard receiver gives you the DISH program guide, interactive tv features, v-chip parental control, and event timers. The PVR receiver offers TIVO features such as recording, pausing and skipping commercials. The HD receiver lets you watch programs in both high-definition format and regular format. Each receiver has to be connected to a phone jack for guide programs and pay-per-view events.
