Satellite TV And The New Kid On The Block

Thu, Apr 30, 2009

There are several ways to get satellite TV programming into your home. In the United States, the first satellite TV systems are called TVRO, for TeleVision Receive Only. They are set up using sizable satellite dishes (three to six feet in diameter) to receive programming from many different satellites. For the same reason, often they are designed to move so that they could be directed at different satellites at different times. TVRO systems operate using a frequency called C band.

Do-it-yourself satellite TV enthusiasts are the most typical owners of TVRO systems, and they are still preferred by many boob tubers. That is because the content available over C Band is for the most part unencrypted and so the better your TVRO system (or systems) the more satellite television programming you can get. Often, TVRO owners can find “raw” news content, meaning that it has not yet been edited in any way by a news station. The big drawback of these systems, however, is that they carry far fewer stations than their newer counterpart: Direct Broadcast Systems.

Direct Broadcast Systems, or DBS, are today the most common satellite TV systems. These are the corporate satellite TV services that offer programming packages with hundreds of channels for a monthly subscription fee. DirecTV and Dish Network are the two heavyweights in the satellite TV market in the U.S. DBS systems make use of a much smaller dish (around a foot and a half diameter) as they operate on a much higher frequency called Ku-Band. It doesn’t need to be able to move because it is directed at only one satellite that is “fixed,” residing in geostationary orbit.

In addition to TVRO and DBS systems, there is a new kid on the block in terms of satellite TV viewing, one that is making a lot of noise. Although it is commonly referred to as “satellite TV on PC,” “satellite TV for PC,” or “satellite TV to PC,” etc, it is more accurately described as Internet TV. After all, even though TV satellites are used to transmit content, you, the viewer, do not need to have a satellite dish yourself. Instead, you need a high speed Internet connection and a computer with decent enough graphics capability. This is all you need to tap into the growing world of Internet Television.

Internet TV makes use of available Free-to-Air (FTA) digital satellite broadcasts, and can offer you an overwhelming number of channels, of both video and audio programming, provided you know where to find it, and how to set up your computer to receive it.

Enter “TV to PC” software: for anywhere from $19.95 to $75, there are software applications that provide direct links to satellite TV content available worldwide. As you would expect, you get a range of news, sport, movies, shopping, kid stuff, adult stuff, and music, but you are also getting content streaming from a large number of different countries. You’ll find a good deal of programming that you want, and a good deal more that you didn’t know you wanted because you had no idea it was out there and was available to you.

There are some free websites online that offer links to a limited amount of Satellite TV content, but a one-off cost for software that provides direct links to a broad range of channels and instructions on how to organize and manage them might be worthwhile for some customers. Purchases should come with some form of customer support along with some form of guarantee. As with anything, shop around and be smart about your purchase. Make sure you’re getting what you pay for.

Satellite TV: More Channels Than Cable And Less Expensive, Too!

Many people have satellite TV and there’s a very good reason for it: you get almost unlimited channels and it’s a price that most anyone can afford. When you compare satellite TV to its cable counterpart, you will automatically notice a difference in the amount of channels you get to choose from. With a cable package, you get to choose from different packages, and you have to pay more for premium channels, such as HBO or Cinemax.

More Channels Than You Can Handle

With satellite TV, you get all the channels in one package. That’s because the satellite dish that you have installed on or near your home is able to pick up many channels that your cable TV provider can’t offer you.

Free Installation With Some Carriers!

The best part about satellite TV is that most carriers will offer free installation. You simply pay a small monthly fee, such as ten dollars a month, and you get a technician to come out to your house to install your satellite dish. You can have all those channels at your fingertips in the same day as you pick up the phone and call the satellite TV carrier of your choice.

A Few Drawbacks

There are some drawbacks to satellite TV that should be noted before a person commits to a contract. For one, satellite, unlike cable, can be affected by the weather. If the conditions are hostile, such as a bad thunderstorm, your satellite TV may not work as well or the picture won’t come in as clear.

Another drawback is that you may have to adjust your dish, depending on which channels you want. Most satellite TV carriers offer a remote that allows you to change the position of your dish, but many see this as a hassle. With cable, you simply choose a channel and you don’t have to worry that your cable box is pointed a certain way.

Satellite TV owners obviously don’t mind the drawbacks, as they are quite minute, and there are many satellite TV owners today. So, if you’re looking for an almost unlimited choice of channels at a price you can easily afford, call your local satellite TV provider today. A technician will soon visit your house and, in minutes, you’ll be able to surf the many channels that you wouldn’t be able to see if you had chosen cable TV.

PC Satellite TV Review

Recently I have been testing different programs to watch satellite TV on my PC. Not all of these programs are created equal. They differ in terms of image quality, reliability and the number and types of stations you can receive.

PC Satellite TV is one of the best programs I have found so far. Out of all the programs and online subscriptions I have tested it has got the best price and program variety I have seen. Depending on the type of program they offer 3000 to 4000 TV channels for a one time only fee of $49.95 for instant access. This is by far the best price for the quality that I have seen for PC satellite TV solutions.

Other satellite TV on PC solutions had a similar number of channels, but often I found I couldn’t watch them because they were in foreign languages or had other restrictions that were not mentioned when I bought the package. What can be very annoying is when you have outages in sports transmissions. I have not seen this with PC Satellite TV. The image quality has always been superior.

I am using it for several months now. Originally I had paid the $150.00 they used to charge at that time – still thought that was a great deal for getting PC Satellite TV. And I have friends who paid $300 or more for the same type of TV service over the Internet. Just imagine how much money you can save just by cutting down on monthly expenses for satellite TV.

Among the 3000 channels they offer from around the world, you can watch sports from many different countries – mostly from the US and Europe. You just install the software on your PC or laptop and don’t worry about anything else. It is very easy to use. You can browse through thousands of channels from around the world. They include sports, comedy, news, blockbuster movies, music channels, weather, educational and children show and alot more – much more than you can watch.

At times it will be hard to choose – given the vast variety of choices they offer. Once you have installed PC satellite TV on your computer you will be all set. There are no more charges nor any hidden costs.

The software includes an automatic membership to receive all the channels. It even lets you capture channels from any location in the world. Imagine travelling overseas and still being able to watch your favorite TV series or sports event. You have this flexibility since you can use it on your TV at home as well as on a laptop as long as you have an Internet connection available.

I just wish I had found this software earlier – I could have saved alot of money. They even offer a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied.

If you think that you are paying too much for your satellite service or if you want to watch more TV stations you just cannot receive right now PC satellite TV might be for you.

Must-Have Satellite TV Accessories For Vehicles

Wed, Apr 29, 2009

If you want a satellite set-up for your vehicle, then you will need several satellite TV accessories and pieces of equipment to ensure a successful installation. In choosing your satellite TV accessories, you should first determine the brand and make of the most important equipment for your vehicle – the satellite dish.

The dish is aboveground equipment that collects signals from the satellite. Its name can be deceiving, since you can find a satellite dish in different shapes like flat or square. It also comes in a variety of sizes. Large satellite dishes do not necessarily mean that you will capture better signals.

In choosing satellite TV accessories, such as the dish, it is important to consider the geographical location in which you will operate the satellite. The design of your chosen dish also plays a role in the reception. There are portable models available, ranging from 30cm to 85cm diameters. Choosing a larger satellite dish is ideal for an area with a weak signal. However, large models are not recommended if you wish to stay in just one area for long periods.

Satellite TV Accessories that Complements your Dish

For you satellite TV and dish to capture signals, you should have a receiver. Although you can find hundreds of receivers in satellite TV accessory shops, you should be aware that they offer the same features and perform the exact task – taking signals from your dish and translating it into a format that your television can recognize.

Another important satellite TV accessory is a viewing card. Without this, your television cannot receive a handful of channels via satellite. A viewing card works by decrypting channels that are being transmitted by the satellites. Although you can still receive channels without a viewing card, it would limit your options to only a few channels.

If you will use your satellite TV outdoors frequently, your can benefit from buying a compass. These satellite TV accessories can guide you in checking the proper direction to point your dish. Since most manufacturers of satellite dishes supply their customers with a chart of correct angles and elevation in most towns and cities depending on where you live, this can help you receive signals easily.

If you still wish to watch satellite TV from your home, you will need an inverter to connect it to your regular home digibox. You can simply plug the inverter into a “standard lighter socket”. Buying these must-have satellite TV accessories for your vehicle is important because it will ensure that you receive all your favorite channels wherever you go, during any time of the day.

Imagine being able to watch your TV programs from anywhere in the country or even the world. The use of a mobile satellite TV makes this a possibility. Like the regular satellite TV programs you have a wide choice to make. As the need to travel dictates your choice of TV, you will need to see what type of mobile satellite dishes you can purchase.

The installation of this mobile satellite TV dish will also need to be asked about. Since most of the satellite TVs require a south facing installation, and you require mobility this aspect of the installation detail should be found out.

If you don’t run into any serious complications about your mobile satellite TV installation, you are all set to start ordering the various programs that you would like to see. These choices can include sports channels if you are a sports fan. For the chef in your family there is the ability of watching many different cooking programs.

Having a mobile satellite TV is a great boon to parents who need to travel long distances with their children. One fact about long distance with children that parents today realize is that bored children don’t make great traveling companions. Having to travel for a long time without any distractions can make children irritable. This is where the mobile satellite TV comes into play.

Once you have fixed your satellite dish to your vehicle you can travel and watch the TV at the same time. There are however road laws which you will need to see about as some states will not allow driving and TV viewing at the same time. This will not however matter if you have made the TV screen to be placed where the passengers can see the screen without causing you any driving distractions.

While having the ability to watch TV while you are traveling is a wonderful invention, there are drawbacks. The main drawback is that of obstruction free southern skies. On clear roads where there are no overhead bridges or buildings blocking the signal you will be able to get a good reception to watch whatever programs that you desire.

The technology of today has given us the ability of seeing TV even while we are traveling. The different mobile TVs you can buy will all give you this great advantage. At present you should expect that you will only be able to see programs on your mobile satellite TV when you are driving on country roads. For journeys that are far the hustle and bustle of city life, a mobile satellite TV will keep your family entertained for hours.

With the advent of high-tech software and faster Internet connections, we can now enjoy PC satellite TV from anywhere in the world. The only requirements are that we have the proper software installed, a reliable computer, and a fast Internet connection.

Many people assume that PC satellite TV requires big, bulky dishes that are nailed to the rooftops. This is not true. It is also not true that you need additional hardware or additional cards for your computer. In fact, all you really need is the proper software and this can be found from many online suppliers.

However, before you sign up with a supplier make sure you do some research first. You will want to know exactly what the total cost will be for the service. Some vendors will want some type of monthly fee in order to use their software. Do not fall for that. There are vendors that offer high quality software for a single, one-time fee, and those are the ones you should be shopping with.

You also want to get a sense of how much content you will be able to access. Some vendors offer literally thousands of channels for you to view at no additional charge.

You will be able to watch most of the big games and events for no additional charges. This can often lead to savings that actually pay for the membership fee with the vendor and then some!

But you also want to know about other content as well. What about movies and news? Does the vendor you are looking at offer access to children’s programming? Do they offer access to major channels such as HBO, Discovery, or the National Geographic Channel? Do they offer international channels from several countries or do they limit themselves to only a few? All of these are important questions.
